Hi, welcome back to the eat.

00:00:03.299 --> 00:00:05.969
Well think, well, The live well podcast, I'm Lisa Salsbury.

And my mission is to help women stop obsessing about everything they eat and feel confident about their ability to lose weight without a diet app.

00:00:13.410 --> 00:00:19.050
This week, we're going to be talking about the obstacles and strategies to your new year's resolutions.

00:00:19.469 --> 00:00:21.989
I'm super excited to give you these unconventional ways.

00:00:22.320 --> 00:00:27.410
To reach your goals this year and get you started on your best year yet.

00:00:27.725 --> 00:00:38.734
If you have trouble reaching your goals or figuring out why things just don't go your way or why it always seems like things get in the way of you reaching your goals this episode is for you

00:00:40.216 --> 00:00:47.115
Welcome to Eat Well, Think Well, Live Well; the podcast for women who want to lose weight, but are tired of counting and calculating all the food.

00:00:47.746 --> 00:00:49.305
I'm your host, Lisa Salsbury.

00:00:49.695 --> 00:00:55.356
I'm a certified health and weight loss coach and life coach, and most importantly a recovered chronic dieter.

00:00:55.966 --> 00:01:01.905
I'll teach you to figure out why you are eating when you aren't hungry, instead of worrying so much about what you are eating.

00:01:04.370 --> 00:01:06.379
The new year is right around the corner.

00:01:06.409 --> 00:01:11.180
And I was going to say here, if you are a typical American, you have set some resolutions.

00:01:11.659 --> 00:01:18.950
But when I checked actually less than half of Americans set resolutions in 2022 about 41%.

00:01:19.400 --> 00:01:23.090
So I actually want you to be part of the minority here.

00:01:23.120 --> 00:01:27.829
I, I think this probably comes from the fact that most people don't achieve their goals.

00:01:27.890 --> 00:01:30.019
And so why bother setting them right.

00:01:30.709 --> 00:01:37.549
In fact studies show that somewhere around eight to 9% of those, that set resolutions actually achieve them.

00:01:38.090 --> 00:01:43.280
So today I want to talk about how to be even more, a part of that minority part of that 9%.

00:01:43.670 --> 00:01:45.079
That achieves their goals.

00:01:45.290 --> 00:01:49.549
So not only do I want you to set some and be part of the minority that sets them.

00:01:49.879 --> 00:01:56.629
But also, I want you to be even part of that smaller group of the ones that are successful.

00:01:57.409 --> 00:02:02.090
At the first session of every single new client that I take through my signature eat well live.

00:02:02.090 --> 00:02:05.000
Well think while coaching program, we set goals.

00:02:05.629 --> 00:02:08.300
I am going to talk you through how we do that.

00:02:08.300 --> 00:02:11.780
And some of my techniques for helping them achieve these goals.

00:02:12.139 --> 00:02:14.509
And I know this may be a topic you've heard before.

00:02:14.870 --> 00:02:18.139
Because of course it's the new year coming up.

00:02:18.169 --> 00:02:20.659
And so you've probably ear probably like, yep.

00:02:20.719 --> 00:02:21.770
I've heard this goals.

00:02:21.770 --> 00:02:27.110
I know how to set those, but stick with me because I'm going to give you a few unconventional strategies here.

00:02:27.590 --> 00:02:30.830
First, you have to know what you want.

00:02:31.129 --> 00:02:32.810
What are your biggest struggles right now?

00:02:32.840 --> 00:02:37.159
What are the things that you know, are not going as you wished they would go.

00:02:37.639 --> 00:02:43.189
Maybe that's your health, maybe it has to do with your scale weight or your movement exercise habits.

00:02:43.430 --> 00:02:49.759
The most common resolution that is set does have to do with our health and more specifically exercise or weight loss.

00:02:50.180 --> 00:02:54.710
I'll tell you the three most common goals for my clients, which is lose weight.

00:02:54.710 --> 00:02:56.210
I have more energy.

00:02:56.479 --> 00:03:00.740
And improve the quality of their diet, meaning like more vegetables, less eating out.

00:03:00.770 --> 00:03:02.780
That sort of thing is usually what's listed there.

00:03:03.439 --> 00:03:10.370
So you want to start with the goal and then you want to know what it will look like if you are successful.

00:03:10.969 --> 00:03:17.389
So I think this is a major problem to reaching goals is you weren't specific enough about what success looks like.

00:03:17.389 --> 00:03:19.580
So you don't really know if you're on track.

00:03:20.000 --> 00:03:24.080
You hear gurus, talk about setting specific smart goals.

00:03:24.080 --> 00:03:26.479
You'll hear that, but what I want you to do.

00:03:26.840 --> 00:03:31.669
More is to write down how you will know if you are successful.

00:03:32.129 --> 00:03:34.439
Which is just a little bit different here.

00:03:34.889 --> 00:03:43.030
Because when we look at what success looks like, then we want to compare that to your current status.

00:03:43.419 --> 00:03:47.469
So, where are you currently and what will success look like?

00:03:47.710 --> 00:03:55.090
So if you have something very objective, like scale weight, It's not hard to see where you are now and what your goal weight is.

00:03:55.090 --> 00:03:57.189
That's just math and it's not difficult.

00:03:57.189 --> 00:03:59.500
You just get on the scale and it spits out a number for you.

00:03:59.740 --> 00:04:00.189
Easy.

00:04:00.729 --> 00:04:07.210
Similarly, if you want to say lift weights three times a week, and you're currently lifting zero times per week.

00:04:07.240 --> 00:04:08.560
Again, that's objective.

00:04:08.590 --> 00:04:11.199
You can look at your calendar and see what's happening.

00:04:11.560 --> 00:04:13.870
Again, our calendar is also kind of like math.

00:04:14.770 --> 00:04:21.370
But if your goal is more subjective, such as increasing your energy, improving the quality of your diet.

00:04:21.730 --> 00:04:25.209
You'll need a different way to measure because.

00:04:25.720 --> 00:04:32.439
A lot of times we think, oh yeah, I'm going to, I'm going to improve my energy, but then we are still a little bit tired.

00:04:32.470 --> 00:04:34.120
And so we think, oh, it didn't work.

00:04:34.509 --> 00:04:36.430
So you need a way to measure.

00:04:36.490 --> 00:04:39.490
So I frequently suggest a one to 10 scale.

00:04:39.910 --> 00:04:46.810
So maybe one is you can't get out of bed all day or you need several caffeinated, drinks and naps to make it through the day.

00:04:47.170 --> 00:04:49.480
And 10 is the perfect amount of energy.

00:04:49.509 --> 00:04:53.560
You don't need any coffee or naps, and you're just ready to fall asleep at bedtime.

00:04:54.040 --> 00:04:56.199
So give yourself a number on that scale.

00:04:56.589 --> 00:05:02.290
Maybe you figure you're about a, say a four on that scale currently, and then you decide, okay.

00:05:02.290 --> 00:05:05.800
In 12 weeks, I think I could be at a six.

00:05:06.220 --> 00:05:11.170
And then in six months I'd like to be at an eight or, you know, whatever you decide.

00:05:11.319 --> 00:05:17.649
I wouldn't recommend expecting yourself to be at a 10 in just a few weeks, because these things take time to alter.

00:05:18.790 --> 00:05:23.949
You can use this type of scale also with other subjective things like the quality of your diet.

00:05:23.980 --> 00:05:27.069
I've done this with clients that say they just want to eat healthier.

00:05:27.430 --> 00:05:32.680
But everybody's idea of quote unquote, a healthy diet sort of looks different.

00:05:32.680 --> 00:05:41.319
So I asked them to rate their current eating habits, and then we have an aim again for the end of our 12 weeks together of where they want to be.

00:05:42.290 --> 00:05:48.411
I think writing down where you currently are, is just as important as deciding where you want to be.

00:05:48.800 --> 00:05:55.430
Because if you make small incremental changes, as my clients do, sometimes the progress is so slow yet steady.

00:05:55.730 --> 00:05:59.271
That they don't see it until we look back at where we started.

00:05:59.901 --> 00:06:08.841
Plus probably the most important reason I like to write down both, both the, where we're going and where we are is we just are good at remembering.

00:06:09.321 --> 00:06:15.350
So do yourself a favor, write down where you're starting from so you can see all your progress.

00:06:16.281 --> 00:06:23.571
Because if your aim is to be say at a six on energy level, you're still going to be experiencing some fatigue.

00:06:23.870 --> 00:06:24.170
Right.

00:06:24.170 --> 00:06:26.451
And so you'll think, oh, I'm still tired.

00:06:26.810 --> 00:06:33.680
But when you look back and you realize, oh, I'm rating myself at a six now that's actually better than when I was writing myself at a four.

00:06:33.711 --> 00:06:35.571
I am making progress.

00:06:36.511 --> 00:06:44.000
So don't depend on your memory to remember exactly how you were feeling 6, 12, 16 weeks ago.

00:06:44.870 --> 00:06:45.170
Okay.

00:06:45.201 --> 00:06:46.011
Step two.

00:06:46.401 --> 00:06:50.781
Is to break it down into more manageable goals, like a two week plan.

00:06:51.081 --> 00:06:53.180
This is also a typical strategy.

00:06:53.211 --> 00:07:00.531
You know, you're going to think big picture, like say total pounds lost in a year, but also break it down into how we are going to get there.

00:07:00.560 --> 00:07:02.661
The practical day-to-day stuff.

00:07:02.930 --> 00:07:05.721
So what can I accomplish in the next two weeks?

00:07:06.110 --> 00:07:08.961
You could make a monthly plan for your yearly resolutions.

00:07:08.990 --> 00:07:12.860
I tend to work in 12 week segments because that's how long my coaching programs run.

00:07:13.341 --> 00:07:25.430
So for example, many of my clients set a total weight loss goal and then a 12 week goal because they have maybe more weight to lose than what we can safely accomplish in 12 weeks.

00:07:25.940 --> 00:07:39.081
So you might also decide your two week goal for improving the health of your diet is something like I'm going to try one new vegetable every two weeks or one new recipe with chicken in it each week.

00:07:39.591 --> 00:07:44.120
So, if you have a movement-based school, you don't want to hit the gym six days a week, right out of the gate.

00:07:44.511 --> 00:07:46.971
You will burn out and be so sore.

00:07:47.000 --> 00:07:47.961
You can't go back.

00:07:47.961 --> 00:07:51.800
So you want to have a plan for increasing your movement each week.

00:07:51.800 --> 00:07:54.050
How many days this week can I commit to?

00:07:54.050 --> 00:07:57.980
And then how many days next week you might have the same number of.

00:07:58.281 --> 00:08:05.031
Of days per week for several weeks and then increase after three or four weeks work up to your ultimate goal.

00:08:05.690 --> 00:08:06.050
Okay.

00:08:06.194 --> 00:08:09.555
The next step is where I get a little more unconventional.

00:08:10.095 --> 00:08:12.644
But this is really the meat of the episode here.

00:08:13.214 --> 00:08:15.884
I want you to write down all the ways.

00:08:16.334 --> 00:08:18.225
This won't work.

00:08:19.454 --> 00:08:21.375
I call these the obstacles.

00:08:22.125 --> 00:08:27.764
Literally, I want you to just let your lower brain offer you all the ways you failed in the past.

00:08:28.125 --> 00:08:30.735
All the reasons there is no way you can do this.

00:08:31.327 --> 00:08:35.288
This actually improves motivation in the long run.

00:08:35.977 --> 00:08:40.298
I know that sounds completely counterintuitive, but thinking about all the ways.

00:08:40.748 --> 00:08:42.398
You are going to fail.

00:08:42.817 --> 00:08:45.847
Actually is like coming up with a plan B.

00:08:46.148 --> 00:08:48.187
And a plan C et cetera.

00:08:48.847 --> 00:08:52.658
When the boat is sinking, you want to already know where the life jackets are.

00:08:53.048 --> 00:08:54.908
You want to know what the plan is?

00:08:54.908 --> 00:08:55.988
If things go wrong.

00:08:56.618 --> 00:08:58.028
In a stressful moment.

00:08:58.118 --> 00:09:02.288
That's not really the time you want to be deciding what the best course of action is.

00:09:02.857 --> 00:09:09.217
And I want to be clear on what I am working towards, how I'm going to get there and what I'm going to do.

00:09:09.248 --> 00:09:11.677
If X, Y, Z comes up.

00:09:12.638 --> 00:09:21.368
So you write down the obstacles and then they key here is you list all the strategies for how you can overcome these.

00:09:21.998 --> 00:09:25.988
I talk about the higher brain versus lower brain in regards to planning and setting goals.

00:09:25.988 --> 00:09:34.087
And this is truly the higher brain at its finest because in the moment of the obstacle, you are going to be stressed, tired out of time.

00:09:34.650 --> 00:09:45.181
your lower brain will jump in with, see, I told you this wouldn't work and then offer you some solutions that aren't really in your best interest that really aren't going to help you reach your goals.

00:09:45.750 --> 00:09:51.061
But if you will already come up with a plan with your higher brain that has your best interest in mind.

00:09:51.421 --> 00:09:53.341
You will actually know what to do.

00:09:54.000 --> 00:09:56.701
So this actually helps you get prepared.

00:09:56.941 --> 00:10:00.030
I want you to already have the next step in place.

00:10:00.390 --> 00:10:02.701
So you can just hop right to it.

00:10:03.480 --> 00:10:09.541
The truth is we don't do our best thinking in crisis mode, or even when we are just put on the spot.

00:10:10.110 --> 00:10:15.360
But you don't have to, if you've already employed your higher brain to come up with these strategies.

00:10:16.051 --> 00:10:21.331
So this feels like you're setting yourself up for disaster to focus on all the ways this won't work.

00:10:21.660 --> 00:10:24.360
But I promise this is actually a proven technique.

00:10:24.841 --> 00:10:29.280
I actually heard this on us, this story on a podcast and I looked it up and it is true.

00:10:29.581 --> 00:10:31.291
So I want to share it with you as well.

00:10:31.291 --> 00:10:37.951
In fact, I had just done an obstacle and strategy session with a client when I heard this episode on a fairly unrelated podcast of mine.

00:10:37.980 --> 00:10:40.740
So I was like, yes, this is a perfect example.

00:10:41.071 --> 00:10:43.980
So think back to the 2008 Beijing summer Olympics.

00:10:44.520 --> 00:10:49.230
Michael Phelps had just won seven gold medals and he had one race to go.

00:10:49.650 --> 00:10:53.520
So this would be record-setting to win eight gold medals in a single Olympics.

00:10:53.910 --> 00:10:56.971
And this final race was the 200 fly.

00:10:57.630 --> 00:10:59.551
200 flight was totally his thing.

00:10:59.551 --> 00:11:00.421
His specialty.

00:11:00.451 --> 00:11:02.941
This should have been like a walk in the park for him.

00:11:02.971 --> 00:11:03.811
Like a no brainer.

00:11:04.620 --> 00:11:08.760
But as soon as he dove into the pool, His goggles started to leak.

00:11:09.211 --> 00:11:14.041
And by the time he was on his third length, he was swimming completely blind.

00:11:14.041 --> 00:11:15.691
So this is four lengths of the pool.

00:11:15.931 --> 00:11:22.321
So he's doing his turn at that third coming back on the fourth length and he could not see at all.

00:11:22.620 --> 00:11:24.931
And I actually did swim quite a bit.

00:11:25.110 --> 00:11:27.510
In high school and even a tiny bit in college.

00:11:27.931 --> 00:11:35.301
And I will say that swimming with goggles that are leaking and full of water can be super distracting.

00:11:35.967 --> 00:11:38.727
But he had imagined this obstacle in advance.

00:11:38.788 --> 00:11:42.388
So not only had he come up with this obstacle, being a possibility.

00:11:42.717 --> 00:11:45.927
But he had also come up with strategies to this issue.

00:11:46.288 --> 00:11:49.162
So he and his coach together had practiced for this.

00:11:49.595 --> 00:11:53.644
his coach would take us goggles and more routine events or in practice.

00:11:53.644 --> 00:11:55.625
He would mess with them right before Michael.

00:11:56.554 --> 00:11:59.794
so not only did they discuss this being a possibility.

00:12:00.034 --> 00:12:03.754
He actually knew what to do because he had practiced.

00:12:04.085 --> 00:12:05.495
With this obstacle.

00:12:06.004 --> 00:12:14.254
So he had decided with his coach when my goggles leak, which is the obstacle, I will count my strokes and there is the strategy.

00:12:14.705 --> 00:12:20.345
He knew exactly how many strokes it would take for him to get from one end of the pool, to the other.

00:12:20.465 --> 00:12:21.904
And spoiler alert.

00:12:21.934 --> 00:12:26.254
If you weren't watching, he won that race and set the record of eight gold medals.

00:12:26.975 --> 00:12:30.514
So we can do exactly this same thing.

00:12:30.995 --> 00:12:34.835
I actually have a client who was going to be heading to Italy.

00:12:35.195 --> 00:12:39.727
She had a trip planned and she was like, there's going to be so much pasta.

00:12:39.817 --> 00:12:40.807
Like, what am I going to do?

00:12:41.768 --> 00:12:43.357
We actually practiced.

00:12:43.778 --> 00:12:48.727
With pasta at home and at restaurants at home before she was in Italy.

00:12:48.967 --> 00:12:51.908
So she would know exactly what to do.

00:12:52.238 --> 00:12:58.477
How can I pay attention to my hunger scale when I am eating something that I love so much like pasta?

00:12:58.717 --> 00:13:13.477
I can't remember now all of her strategies because it's been several months ago now, but I think some of them are a to eat half if it was a restaurant portion or to dish herself up less to pay attention to each, by all of those kinds of strategies.

00:13:13.477 --> 00:13:16.238
I talk about with my clients with the hunger scale.

00:13:16.268 --> 00:13:22.837
So we actually did practice though, with the particular type of food she felt would be an obstacle for her.

00:13:23.317 --> 00:13:27.488
And incidentally, she came back from that six week trip down four pounds.

00:13:28.130 --> 00:13:33.171
Let's look at some examples of obstacles and we will say the goal is to lose weight.

00:13:33.681 --> 00:13:35.451
So your list might look something like this.

00:13:36.500 --> 00:13:38.301
I don't have time to plan meals.

00:13:38.645 --> 00:13:41.135
It's hard for me to lose weight because of my age.

00:13:41.586 --> 00:13:43.985
I will be tired if I wake up early to exercise.

00:13:44.285 --> 00:13:46.235
My husband, won't be supportive of my change.

00:13:46.265 --> 00:13:47.885
My kids won't eat the food I want to eat.

00:13:48.336 --> 00:13:50.105
I like going out to dinner with friends.

00:13:50.676 --> 00:13:52.086
Tax season is stressful.

00:13:52.519 --> 00:13:55.219
my coworkers invite me out to lunch every day.

00:13:55.691 --> 00:13:57.640
I like eating at night after dinner.

00:13:58.509 --> 00:14:11.828
These are actually real examples from real clients of mine, not all from the same client, kind of a mashup, but we look at these obstacles then, and we decide what we're going to do in each situation.

00:14:12.355 --> 00:14:19.105
I'm not going to go through strategies for each of these particular examples, because your list will be so personal to you.

00:14:19.105 --> 00:14:22.676
It's going to look different and your strategies will also look different.

00:14:23.035 --> 00:14:30.235
But what I want to give you is the general categories of what your strategies will probably look like.

00:14:30.265 --> 00:14:42.210
Your strategies will generally fall into three categories So number one, and this is actually the most common is these obstacles or problems are actually thought problems.

00:14:42.539 --> 00:14:49.799
And we can put those through the self coaching model or get help from an actual coach, such as myself in working through that.

00:14:49.866 --> 00:14:53.826
Thought and perhaps even changing it to a thought you would prefer to have.

00:14:54.456 --> 00:14:56.767
This would be applicable for the obstacle.

00:14:56.797 --> 00:14:58.927
I like going out to dinner with friends.

00:14:59.317 --> 00:15:04.537
We would use coaching as a strategy here, because we would want to know why this is a problem.

00:15:04.927 --> 00:15:07.177
And then coach around those issues.

00:15:08.155 --> 00:15:11.725
So you might say, well, I overeat when I go out to dinner with friends.

00:15:13.206 --> 00:15:13.625
Okay.

00:15:13.625 --> 00:15:17.346
So the strategy then would be to pay attention to the hunger scale.

00:15:17.706 --> 00:15:22.596
And maybe to the people you are with rather than to eating everything on the plate.

00:15:22.806 --> 00:15:44.346
That's actually a really common strategy that I use when the issue is when you're eating with other people, is that you concentrate on paying attention to the company you are with rather than worrying about everything that's on your plate, but the coaching would look different for each person because I don't know what your thoughts are or why your brain thinks this is an obstacle.

00:15:45.089 --> 00:15:47.578
But this one is definitely a thought.

00:15:47.639 --> 00:15:49.379
I like going out to dinner with friends.

00:15:49.379 --> 00:15:50.399
It's a thought.

00:15:50.788 --> 00:16:00.119
That this is an obstacle to losing weight because you can be out to dinner with friends and look around and see many, many people that appear to be.

00:16:00.509 --> 00:16:01.918
At their natural weight.

00:16:01.948 --> 00:16:04.349
I'm not talking about really thin models here.

00:16:04.558 --> 00:16:10.499
This is not a body checking or seeing if you were thinner or, or bigger than someone else.

00:16:10.678 --> 00:16:18.149
The point is that you can find evidence that people do go out to dinner and maintain a weight that feels comfortable to them.

00:16:18.208 --> 00:16:22.349
And so that's how you can gain evidence that this one is a thought.

00:16:22.769 --> 00:16:27.269
And your brain is like, well, I won't be able to lose weight if I go out to dinner with friends.

00:16:27.719 --> 00:16:37.669
And so we need to get to the bottom of that thought and why your brain thinks that would be an obstacle second, you may find obstacles that require some actions.

00:16:37.970 --> 00:16:41.399
So as opposed to the thought problems you It might be an action-based problem.

00:16:41.460 --> 00:16:45.485
These things maybe need to be complained for or committed to on a calendar.

00:16:45.905 --> 00:16:48.125
This would be applicable for the obstacle.

00:16:48.125 --> 00:16:50.105
I don't have time to plan my meals.

00:16:50.676 --> 00:16:55.505
If losing weight is part of your goals, and you will need to have food that works for you on hand.

00:16:55.625 --> 00:16:56.076
At home.

00:16:56.806 --> 00:17:00.525
This is something we need to plan on the calendar and commit to.

00:17:00.991 --> 00:17:05.402
right now you're thinking you don't have time because you haven't done it before.

00:17:05.402 --> 00:17:07.622
So it's an obstacle to reaching the goals.

00:17:07.951 --> 00:17:14.011
So the strategy is to plan a time on the calendar to make planning meals and shopping a priority.

00:17:14.761 --> 00:17:20.251
The strategy might also include having some go-to meals that can be made with all pantry items.

00:17:20.491 --> 00:17:27.362
So if you find yourself not planning the meals, You still have something on hand that will keep you on track with your goals.

00:17:27.602 --> 00:17:32.751
And if you don't know what go-to meals are, I do have a free ebook to help you plan your go-to meals.

00:17:33.082 --> 00:17:37.882
I'll put that link in the show notes go-to meals can really help you stay on track.

00:17:37.882 --> 00:17:39.922
So that would be a really good strategy here.

00:17:39.922 --> 00:17:42.922
If you feel like time is a, is an issue for you.

00:17:43.821 --> 00:17:48.832
You might also decide that your strategy includes subscribing to a meal delivery service.

00:17:49.251 --> 00:17:52.102
Or you start to order groceries for pickup.

00:17:52.491 --> 00:17:56.122
All kinds of ways we can make it fit into our calendars.

00:17:56.392 --> 00:17:57.652
So you see how we can.

00:17:57.892 --> 00:18:00.051
Really brainstorm different ways.

00:18:00.291 --> 00:18:00.922
Two.

00:18:01.461 --> 00:18:04.162
Alleviate the time being a factor.

00:18:04.372 --> 00:18:10.402
So see how these also are more action-based strategies than the first, one of the thought based problems.

00:18:10.701 --> 00:18:15.172
Although time can be a thought based problem because time is a construct.

00:18:15.592 --> 00:18:19.721
This is one that we can really do more of the action-based strategies around.

00:18:20.442 --> 00:18:27.102
Third, some of these obstacles are actually just lies that should be released and let go of.

00:18:27.731 --> 00:18:30.501
That would be applicable for the thought.

00:18:30.531 --> 00:18:33.142
It's hard for me to lose weight because of my age.

00:18:33.832 --> 00:18:40.162
Your brain will remind you about all the articles you've read about menopause, weight gain, and how losing weight after a certain age is difficult.

00:18:40.642 --> 00:18:46.612
But we can find plenty of women who are successful in their forties and fifties and beyond.

00:18:47.031 --> 00:18:51.231
So the strategy here is to actually just release this as a lie.

00:18:51.892 --> 00:18:54.051
This thought just isn't serving you.

00:18:54.531 --> 00:18:57.142
You can just decide it's simply not true.

00:18:57.471 --> 00:19:03.261
And when it comes up again, the strategy is simply to remind yourself it's a lie and you don't believe it anymore.

00:19:03.801 --> 00:19:07.342
This is different than the first one, which I said is a thought based problem.

00:19:07.882 --> 00:19:09.862
Although lies are thought based problem.

00:19:10.132 --> 00:19:16.852
We don't actually need to run them through the model or get coaching on them as far as trying to change them.

00:19:17.122 --> 00:19:18.711
If they're a lie, they're a lie.

00:19:18.771 --> 00:19:20.392
We just can release them.

00:19:20.811 --> 00:19:28.251
Even though they'll come up time and time again, because we don't just decide something's a lie and then have our brain be like, oh, you're right.

00:19:28.251 --> 00:19:31.642
I'll just never offer that to you again, of course, it's going to offer it to you.

00:19:31.642 --> 00:19:32.031
Of course.

00:19:32.031 --> 00:19:34.102
Your lower brain is going to offer that to you.

00:19:34.642 --> 00:19:38.721
But you can just remind your, your brain, not a problem here.

00:19:38.751 --> 00:19:39.801
That's just not true.

00:19:40.432 --> 00:19:43.971
I often find several lies in my client list of obstacles.

00:19:43.971 --> 00:19:50.061
So don't be afraid to really question the things that come up for you when you're writing your obstacle list.

00:19:50.662 --> 00:19:57.321
Now that isn't to say that your brain doesn't think they are real or that I don't want you to feel like I'm dismissing what you're saying.

00:19:57.321 --> 00:19:58.342
Like, oh, that's not important.

00:19:58.342 --> 00:19:59.092
It's just not true.

00:19:59.092 --> 00:20:06.771
I rather, you just want to get really honest and question your brain really just don't believe everything.

00:20:06.801 --> 00:20:07.672
It offers you.

00:20:08.122 --> 00:20:11.271
It's awesome to get all that stuff out on paper though.

00:20:11.271 --> 00:20:14.271
So you can really see where the problems live.

00:20:14.872 --> 00:20:21.892
So, those are the ways we're going to attack and come up with strategies to all of the obstacles.

00:20:21.892 --> 00:20:24.352
I really encourage you to do this process.

00:20:24.711 --> 00:20:38.152
It is highly motivating to have more of a plan because we find that we just set the goal and decide, okay, I'm going to go to the gym, but we don't decide what to do when our alarm doesn't go off.

00:20:38.301 --> 00:20:40.791
We don't decide what to do when we have to stay up late.

00:20:40.791 --> 00:20:41.511
And we're tired.

00:20:41.751 --> 00:20:44.061
We've got to make these decisions ahead of time.

00:20:44.182 --> 00:20:55.011
So when those obstacles come up, when you get invited to a lunch that you weren't planning on, you need to have a strategy for what you're going to do made with your upper brain.

00:20:55.491 --> 00:21:01.011
So I'd love to help you through this process of setting goals and figuring out all of your obstacles and strategies.

00:21:01.251 --> 00:21:05.692
